It is truly a wonderful time to be a parent! More is known today about how to raise radiant, health babies than ever before in our culture's history. A new paradigm is dawning that is long, long overdue. One of the biggest realizations--that our babies are far more aware at birth than we ever knew. This has enormous implications for all of us, and of course for our next generations.
Until recently, doctors and medical science regarded infants merely as little bodies with a pulse that could be handled roughly, hung upside down, spanked to initiate breathing, and separated from the mother for long periods after birth. Despite some improvements, there has been little awareness that babies are, in fact, being imprinted for life by the circumstances and pains of their earliest moments. This imprinting sets up either dynamics of integration and psychological resilience, or traumas that increase the likelihood of violence and dysfunction as adults.
What Babies Want is a clarion call to a new way of relating to babies--as conscious, sentient beings who deserve the most exquisite, loving, tender care. Their welcoming at birth is especially important, at such a profound, pivotal moment of transition. What Babies Want explores practical ways to ensure this. A beautifully made, inspiring, and award-winning film that has wowed audiences around the world. It deserves to be seen by all.
