Q. Can I get too much vitamin D?
A. If you take cod liver oil in recommended amounts and eat a normal diet and have no liver problems, you shouldn't get too much vitamin D.

Q. Should I stop taking cod liver oil in the summer?
A. You can consider cutting down on cod liver oil during the summer months if you get out in the sun with few clothes on and no sunscreen during the middle of the day on a daily basis for 20 minutes or more. In other times of year in the US, the UV-B rays are diminished so vitamin D production happens much less robustly.

Q. Is the cod liver oil heated in processing? Are any solvents used?
A. In general, cod liver oils are heated during the process of extracting the oil from the fish liver. We do not consider this a raw food but it is processed as little as possible, with no solvents used in its production.

Traditional Method

Krill are caught by trawling and then dumped on board the vessel. This process inadvertently captures and kills fish, mammals, turtles and birds. Once out of the water, fast acting enzymes within the krill begin digesting the krill immediately causing them to quickly spoil and perish. The krill is then flash frozen and shipped to processing facilities thousands of miles away using ethanol, acetone and ethyl acetate to extract the oil.

Our Method

Krill are eco-harvested via a fishing system which remains under water while a continuous stream of water flows through a hose transporting the live krill inside the factory vessel. This system utilizes special screens so only krill and ocean water are able to enter. Before the krill begin to decompose, they are exposed to nitrogen to prevent oxidation of key components. The extraction process utilizes water and a naturally occurring grain alcohol that is more environmentally friendly than other solvents.

Unlike fish oil, the Omega-3 fatty acids in Radiant Life Krill Oil are absorbed and carried to the body's cell in phospholipid form. Since phospholipids form the structural basis of cell membranes, they are effectively utilized by the body.

How can you get vitamin D?

Vitamin D is one of the few nutrients the body needs that does not come from a wide variety of foods. Although salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna can deliver about 200 I.U./serving, they are not an adequate source of D3. After fortification, milk delivers only vitamin D2 - not D3, the real thing.
