Lactose, or milk sugar, is derived from whey and like whey, it is useful in assisting in the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus in the G.I. tract. Included in Nourishing Traditions baby formulas, lactose is an essential addition to cow's milk as mother's milk is richer in lactose than cow's milk.

Lactose is about 20% as sweet as sugar and is a great milk additive for children. It is an easily dissolving powder.

Flavor & Antioxidant Free Liquid - Simply pure cod liver oil and nothing else! Flavor free is a bit of a misnomer in that if you enjoy the taste of fish you will appreciate its fresh fish flavor. Like most fermented products, it produces a bit of a tingle in the back of the throat.

Cinnamon Tingle Liquid - A favorite of many, the flavor has been improved with the use of organic cinnamon oil, organic stevia leaf, and a bit of cranberry seed oil as an antioxidant while the tingling sensation has been removed by the addition of an emulsifier (fermented hyaluronic acid).

Arctic Mint Liquid - With its natural mint flavor, many find this cod liver oil a refreshing alternative.

Oslo Orange Liquid - Includes organic orange oil, organic lemon oil, and a bit of cranberry seed oil as an antioxidant while the tingling sensation has been removed by the addition of an emulsifier (fermented hyaluronic acid).

Synergy of Butter Oil and Cod Liver Oil

Research shows that butter oil and cod liver oil, taken together, provide complementary factors leading to proper essential fatty acid balance. High-vitamin butter oil contains arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid, while cod liver oil is rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3. Moreover, the saturated fatty acids in the butter oil promote efficient utilization of the unsaturated fatty acids in the cod liver oil. Finally, butter oil contains a broad and deep range of important quinones including Vitamin K, E and CoQ enzymes while cod liver oil is rich in Vitamin A and D.

Our High-Vitamin Butter Oil is extracted from dairy milk produced by Guernsey and Devon cows (high butterfat producers) that graze exclusively on irrigated grass in the northern Great Plains. Q. Does your cod liver oil have all natural vitamins A, D and E? Are there any synthetic vitamins?
A. The vitamins in our cod liver oil are all naturally occurring. It is uncommon in the industry but our sources are one of the few remaining that maintain these natural standards. Q. Can I get too much vitamin D?
A. If you take cod liver oil in recommended amounts and eat a normal diet and have no liver problems, you shouldn't get too much vitamin D.

Q. Should I stop taking cod liver oil in the summer?
A. You can consider cutting down on cod liver oil during the summer months if you get out in the sun with few clothes on and no sunscreen during the middle of the day on a daily basis for 20 minutes or more. In other times of year in the US, the UV-B rays are diminished so vitamin D production happens much less robustly.

Q. Will I like the taste of cod liver oil?
A. Many of our customers enjoy our unflavored cod liver oil right from the spoon. Many children even ask for it. Others prefer the flavors we offer or they will mix cod liver oil with a small amount of water, milk, or juice. Some like to add to salads, sauces or dressings. Alternatively, we offer cod liver oil in capsules.

Q. How does one dispense a 2 ml dose of the fermented cod liver oil?
A. Each bottle of fermented cod liver oil liquid comes with a calibrated syringe that fits into the bottle's plastic top. You are able to firmly insert the syringe into the top, invert the bottle and draw the desired dose into the syringe. Cod liver oil gels can be taken simply with a teaspoon.

Q. Is your fermented cod liver oil heated during processing? Are any solvents used?
A. No, our fermented cod liver oil is not heated. It is goes though a non-heated lacto-fermentation process.

Q. Is it pure?
A. Yes, it contains only cod liver oil. Natural flavors and a small amounts of natural antioxidant are added to some of the oils.

Q. Is it "high vitamin cod liver oil?"
A. Yes. This oil comes from a certain species of cod fished during the seasons when the nutrients are at optimal density resulting in a nutrient content that is 2-5x greater density than other brands while maintaining the recommended ratio of Vitamin A to D.

Q. Why would I select the Peppermint Kid Tested Cod Liver Oil over the Arctic Mint liquid? Why is the recommended serving size higher for the Kid Tested liquid compared to the regular liquid?
A. The Kid Tested Flavors includes a natural emulsifier making it easier to both ingest and digest for some people while offering a preferred flavor. The serving size is larger for the Kid Tested products as their content of soluble fiber requires slightly more product to get the equivalent nutrient density of 1/2 teaspoon of the regular liquid.

Q. How should the fermented cod liver oil be stored? What is its shelf life?
A. Unopened fermented CLO is stable if stored in a cool, dry place for up to 2 years. Once opened, it is recommended that the fermented clo be refrigerated. However, to prevent the liquid forms (Item #'s 4130 though 4133) from solidifying in the refrigerator, the product can be stored at room temperature for up to 6 months after opening. Fermented clo in the form of capsules is stable after opening for up to 6 months without refrigeration (though the label states refrigeration is recommended).

The creme de la creme of coconut oils! Our coconut oil is produced in the Philippines and Thailand from fresh coconuts opened within 48 hours of being picked from the trees, and immediately processed into oil! The oil is extracted by centrifuge, without using any heat in the process, with no solvents, bleaches or deodorizers. This retains all the nutrients, including enzymes. This coconut oil is very creamy and smooth with a lovely coconut taste and aroma. It can be used in most cooking applications and will not overpower other flavors. Additionally, what sets this centrifuged oil apart from all other virgin coconut oils is its high lauric acid content. Lauric acid is the fatty acid consisting of 12 carbon atoms. Q. Isn't coconut oil mostly saturated fat, which is bad?
A. The saturated fat found in virgin coconut oil, lauric acid, is a Medium Chain Fatty Acid. It is easily broken down by the body and is converted to energy, not body fat. For more information as to why saturated fats are not the bad guys as we've been led to believe, read Eat Fat Lose Fat.

Q. When I received my coconut oil it was solid, but now it's liquid! Why?
A. Virgin coconut oil has a melting point of around 78-80 degrees F. It is perfectly normal for it to melt and it is fine for it to go back and forth between liquid and solid states.

Q. How is coconut oil different from coconut butter?
A. Coconut oil and coconut butter are basically synonymous. There are products on the market made by blending the coconut meat with the oil resulting in a different product known as coconut spread. Another product, coconut cream, is made by juicing raw coconut.

Q. Should I refrigerate it?
A. NO! Refrigerating coconut oil is not necessary for its stability. It can actually lead to mold growth in the oil due to the repeated condensation of moisture from the air into the jar.

Q. What does it taste like?
A. Some virgin coconut oils taste very strong - so strong that it overpowers the food you are cooking. Ours has a lovely mild coconut taste and aroma.

Q. Why should I take coconut oil?
A. Important nutrients like lauric acid have been reported to support the immune system, provide energy, support ideal weight and can have a positive effect on the thyroid.

Q. Is it true that coconut oil is great for sun protection? I have heard putting on coconut oil is the same as putting on sunscreen. if it's true then ..... can i wear my normal lotion then put on coconut oil on top for protection?
A. Many people do report that coconut oil provides some level of protection from the sun without introducing toxic chemicals like PABA found is the majority of sunscreens. Though the beneficial moisturizing effects of coconut oil on the skin are well documented, we would not recommend that coconut oil alone be used as sun protection but instead be combined with wearing a hat and other protective clothing. This is particularly important during the summer months and during peak daylight hours.

With that said, there are those who do rely solely on coconut oil and their skin is very healthy. According to Dr Bruce Fife from his book, The Coconut Oil Miracle...

"The Polynesians, who traditionally wear very little clothing, have for generations been exposed to the hot blistering sun, yet have beautiful healthy skin without blemishes and without cancer. The reason is they eat coconuts and use the oil on their bodies as a lotion. The oil is absorbed into the skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause. Their skin remains undamaged even when exposed to long hours in the hot sun".

Q. What does the centrifuge process involve?
A. Coconuts are shelled, crushed and ground into a slurry. The slurry is sent through a large centrifuge which spins moisture out leaving the oil behind, with very little moisture.

Q.Why buy Coconut oil from Radiant Life when I can find it cheaper elsewhere?
A. Not all coconut oil is alike. Our oil is selected with you in mind... Certified organic - Made without introducing heat, solvents, deodorizers, bleach, and refining. Our coconut oil is cold pressed and centrifuged to eliminate water. Coconut oil with high water content has limited shelf life as moisture destroys coconut oil causing it to go rancid. The only reason coconut oil gets processed at all is to separate it from the meat and the water. All other methods of processing have negative consequences on the quality, taste and feel of the oil. Please note that if the coconut oil doesn't smell or taste like coconut, it's not a high quality oil and it's probably been refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD). Some products labeled as coconut oil are not even made from coconut oil but instead from copra which is a dried coconut by-product.

Q. What type of container will my coconut oil arrive in?
A. We prefer to supply our coconut oil in glass jars. This is practical for our pint and quart sizes. For our one and five gallon containers, a medical grade plastic is used. This is the only safe way it can ship. We have tested this plastic and it's extremely inert.

Q. Can coconut oil be heated?
A. While many enjoy it in an uncooked state, coconut oil can be cooked safely up to 400*F. Many also find that it acts as a great natural moisturizer for skin and hair, even being absorbed by the body on a nutrient level through the skin!

This excellent nutritional yeast is grown from molasses, is processed at low temperatures, and is packed with B vitamins and minerals. Don't confuse nutritional yeast, which is deactivated, with active forms of yeast, like the kinds bakers, brewers, and winemakers use. This nutritional yeast will not contribute to candida growth. It dissolves easily and is recommended for people of all ages. It has a pleasant-tasting, nutty flavor and can be used directly on vegetables, baked potatoes, popcorn and other foods as a condiment.

Q. Is it organic?
A. This yeast is not certified organic. Organic nutritional yeast is available, however we decided not to carry it as it contains gluten (from added wheat), excessive amounts of iron and only trace amounts of B vitamins.

Q. What is special about this yeast?
A. This yeast is grown on molasses, not soy. Molasses is a good source of naturally occurring Vitamin B6, Potassium, Magnesium and Manganese. Frontier yeast is processed in such a way so as not to produce MSG by-products. The yeast is simply dried and rolled into tiny flakes.

A. The NOW company maintains that to retard spoilage of the acerola cherries during drying, it needs to add a bit of corn-based maltodextrin. It is not added as a sweetener and is a very small amount.

Synergy of Butter Oil and Cod Liver Oil

Research shows that butter oil and cod liver oil, taken together, provide complementary factors leading to proper essential fatty acid balance. High-vitamin butter oil contains arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid, while cod liver oil is rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3. Moreover, the saturated fatty acids in the butter oil promote efficient utilization of the unsaturated fatty acids in the cod liver oil. Q. Is X-Factor Gold Butter Oil Raw? How is it different than butter?
A. Our butter oil is made using only 100% unpasteurized milk that has only been heated to 96 degrees F for bottling purposes. The cows are totally grassfed so the butter oil is very yellow. It is five times more nutrient-dense than butter.

Q. How should the product be stored?
A. The product has a shelf life of about 2 years. It should be stored in a cabinet away from light at room temperature prior to opening. Once opened, please refrigerate. To extend the shelf life, butter oil may be frozen.

Q. Do the cows eat growing green grass all year long?
A. The cows eat growing green grass from April through October. During the winter months, there is no green grass, so no oil is produced. During the summer months the grass is irrigated so it continues to grow quickly.

Q. Is the butter oil organic?
A. Our butter oil is better then organic! In order for a product to be certified organic, the cows must be fed organic soy and corn feed. Our cows are fed only grass while milking. No hormones or antibiotics are used.

Q. What does it taste like?
A. X-factor Gold Butter oil tastes very much like butter, especially when refrigerated. Please note however that as a truly natural product, its taste can vary slightly from batch to batch.

Q. What is the X-factor?
A. In 1945, Dr. Weston Price described "a new vitamin-like activator" that played an influential role in the utilization of minerals, protection from tooth decay, growth and development, reproduction, protection against heart disease and the function of the brain. Using a chemical test, he determined that this compound—which he called Activator X, was found in the butterfat, organs and fat of animals consuming rapidly growing green grass, and also in certain sea foods such as fish eggs. Dr. Price died before research by Russian scientists became known in the West. These scientists used the same chemical test to measure a compound similar to vitamin K known as Vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 is produced by animal tissues, including the mammary glands, from vitamin K1, which occurs in rapidly growing green plants. Dr. Price found the highest concentrations of this nutrient in "the milk of several species, varying with the nutrition of the animal" and found the combination of cod liver oil and high-Activator X butter to be superior to that of cod liver oil alone. In the many butter samples he tested, Activator X was only present when the animals were eating rapidly growing green grass. In most regions, this occurred in the spring and early fall. Q. When should I take it?
A. Butter oil can be taken anytime - with or without food. For optimal results, it is recommended that butter oil be taken in tandem with high vitamin cod liver oil.

Q. I noticed that the product label indicates that butter oil is not a significant source of Vitamin A or D. Does butter oil contain any Vitamin A and D?
A. Yes, however the amounts are less than those contained within our cod liver oil.

Q. How is it different than raw butter?
A. If the raw butter is totally grass-fed, the main difference is that the butter oil is about five times more concentrated and has no proteins or whey left - just the most precious nutrients.

Q. Is your butter oil free of casein?
A. Yes, the butter oil is free of all proteins, including casein. It also free of lactose.

Q. How is it different than ghee?
A. If the ghee is totally grass-fed, the main difference is that the butter oil is not heated beyond 96 degrees F at any point in the production process, and ghee is extensively heated, which would result in the loss of nutrients and a change in fatty acid quality.
