The tiny seeds of sesame have been known as a source of food oil for over 4,000 years in many Asian countries. Unfortunately, in industrialized countries, Sesame Oil is mostly produced in vast quantities in what is called a chemical extraction method, using hexane, bleaching, refining, and deodorizing, which results in a bland and tasteless oil. In contrast, Flora Sesame Oil is a truly cold-pressed oil, pressed at temperatures below 45°C yielding just a few quarts per hour. Their atmosphere control system keeps the oil free from exposure to light and oxygen. Unfiltered, retaining all the nutrients, and bottled in amber glass, this delicate oil is the purest you can find. Sesame seeds contain the natural preservatives known as sesamol and sasamolin. When refrigerated, Flora Sesame Oil will partially solidify, which shows that it has a high percentage of monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids. Q. Do I need to refrigerate the ghee?
A. A well-prepared ghee has very little moisture content and it is shelf-stable. You do not need to refrigerate it for 2-3 months if you keep it in an airtight container. This makes it suitable to carry while traveling or camping. When kept in refrigerator, ghee can last up to a year. Ghee will harden in the refrigerator and it will become softer again when you leave it for some time at the room temperature. It is best to protect ghee from light, air and moisture.

Q. If I intend to consume my ghee within 2 months then what is the best place to store it?
A. In this situation, it is best to store the ghee jar in your kitchen cabinet (away from the light).

Q. How do I handle the opened jar?
A. Use a clean and dry spoon. Close the lid as soon as possible. Do not let any moisture get into your ghee jar. It can promote bacteria and spoil the ghee.

Q. I noticed that the texture is grainy rather than smooth. Is this a problem?
A. The conventional store-bought ghee has a very uniform, smooth, highly consistent texture, almost like butter. However, a well-prepared ghee should have a grainy, lumpy texture. This lovely grainy texture is a quality of our ghee and is not at all a problem. Here is our tagline for a grainy ghee: No grains to get grains We believe the quality of butter is the most important factor to get a grainy texture. A 100% grass-fed butter yields good grains. A low heating temperature and careful process of making are also important.

Q. Can I use the ghee after the "expiration" date?
A. Ghee has a sweet flavor. An unopened jar can be safely used after the "Best Used By" date as long as there is no noticeable change in the flavor. Aged ghee is considered to have healing properties. Some families in India have ghee which is over 100-year old. Such an old ghee is rare and is very expensive.

Q. Is ghee considered dairy?
A. Yes, ghee is made from milk and hence it is a dairy-product. However, people who have dairy intolerance can generally consume ghee since ghee does not have casein (a type of milk protein) and lactose (milk sugar) which some people find difficult to digest.

Q. Is your ghee certified kosher?
A. Our ghee is not certified kosher though consideration for kosher certification is possible in the future. Please note that butter is the only ingredient in our ghee and it is certified organic and certified kosher butter. It is prepared in a clean commercial facility with all the required licenses.

Q. Do you use salted or unsalted butter for preparing ghee?
A. We only use unsalted butter.

Q. Should ghee be hard or runny?
A. Ghee contains both hard and runny parts at room temperature. It becomes completely solid when you refrigerate it. If you like to use ghee as a spread then it may be a good idea to keep some in the refrigerator for this purpose.

Q. Why is Celtic salt better than table salt?
A. Regular table salt is mined for nutrients like magnesium and then sold to us as a byproduct! Table salt's sodium and chloride are fused together under high heat and pressure so those valuable nutrients become toxic and dehydrating for the body.

Q. Does it taste different than table salt?
A. Celtic salt tastes a bit less intensely salty than table salt.

Q. Won't eating any salt increase my blood pressure?

Flavor & Antioxidant Free Liquid - Simply pure cod liver oil and nothing else! Flavor free is a bit of a misnomer in that if you enjoy the taste of fish you will appreciate its fresh fish flavor. Like most fermented products, it produces a bit of a tingle in the back of the throat.

Cinnamon Tingle Liquid - A favorite of many, the flavor has been improved with the use of organic cinnamon oil, organic stevia leaf, and a bit of cranberry seed oil as an antioxidant while the tingling sensation has been removed by the addition of an emulsifier (fermented hyaluronic acid).

Arctic Mint Liquid - With its natural mint flavor, many find this cod liver oil a refreshing alternative.

Oslo Orange Liquid - Includes organic orange oil, organic lemon oil, and a bit of cranberry seed oil as an antioxidant while the tingling sensation has been removed by the addition of an emulsifier (fermented hyaluronic acid).

Synergy of Butter Oil and Cod Liver Oil

Research shows that butter oil and cod liver oil, taken together, provide complementary factors leading to proper essential fatty acid balance. High-vitamin butter oil contains arachidonic acid (AA), an omega-6 fatty acid, while cod liver oil is rich in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3. Moreover, the saturated fatty acids in the butter oil promote efficient utilization of the unsaturated fatty acids in the cod liver oil. Finally, butter oil contains a broad and deep range of important quinones including Vitamin K, E and CoQ enzymes while cod liver oil is rich in Vitamin A and D.

Our High-Vitamin Butter Oil is extracted from dairy milk produced by Guernsey and Devon cows (high butterfat producers) that graze exclusively on irrigated grass in the northern Great Plains. A. The vitamins in our cod liver oil are all naturally occurring. It is uncommon in the industry but our sources are one of the few remaining that maintain these natural standards. Q. Can I get too much vitamin D?
A. If you take cod liver oil in recommended amounts and eat a normal diet and have no liver problems, you shouldn't get too much vitamin D.

Q. Should I stop taking cod liver oil in the summer?
A. You can consider cutting down on cod liver oil during the summer months if you get out in the sun with few clothes on and no sunscreen during the middle of the day on a daily basis for 20 minutes or more. In other times of year in the US, the UV-B rays are diminished so vitamin D production happens much less robustly.

Q. Will I like the taste of cod liver oil?
A. Many of our customers enjoy our unflavored cod liver oil right from the spoon. Many children even ask for it. Others prefer the flavors we offer or they will mix cod liver oil with a small amount of water, milk, or juice. Some like to add to salads, sauces or dressings. Alternatively, we offer cod liver oil in capsules.

Q. How does one dispense a 2 ml dose of the fermented cod liver oil?
A. Each bottle of fermented cod liver oil liquid comes with a calibrated syringe that fits into the bottle's plastic top. You are able to firmly insert the syringe into the top, invert the bottle and draw the desired dose into the syringe. Cod liver oil gels can be taken simply with a teaspoon.

Q. Is your fermented cod liver oil heated during processing? Are any solvents used?
A. No, our fermented cod liver oil is not heated. It is goes though a non-heated lacto-fermentation process.

Q. Is it pure?
A. Yes, it contains only cod liver oil. Natural flavors and a small amounts of natural antioxidant are added to some of the oils.

Q. Is it "high vitamin cod liver oil?"
A. Yes. This oil comes from a certain species of cod fished during the seasons when the nutrients are at optimal density resulting in a nutrient content that is 2-5x greater density than other brands while maintaining the recommended ratio of Vitamin A to D.

Q. Why would I select the Peppermint Kid Tested Cod Liver Oil over the Arctic Mint liquid? Why is the recommended serving size higher for the Kid Tested liquid compared to the regular liquid?
A. The Kid Tested Flavors includes a natural emulsifier making it easier to both ingest and digest for some people while offering a preferred flavor. The serving size is larger for the Kid Tested products as their content of soluble fiber requires slightly more product to get the equivalent nutrient density of 1/2 teaspoon of the regular liquid.

Q. How should the fermented cod liver oil be stored? What is its shelf life?
A. Unopened fermented CLO is stable if stored in a cool, dry place for up to 2 years. Once opened, it is recommended that the fermented clo be refrigerated. However, to prevent the liquid forms (Item #'s 4130 though 4133) from solidifying in the refrigerator, the product can be stored at room temperature for up to 6 months after opening. Fermented clo in the form of capsules is stable after opening for up to 6 months without refrigeration (though the label states refrigeration is recommended).
