A Premium, High-Performance Whole House Water Softener

Is your water leaving white, chalky buildup on your fixtures? Are your appliances suffering from scale damage? Does it feel like your soaps and detergents just aren't working the way they should? If so, you are dealing with the effects of hard water. And if your hardness levels are elevated, particularly above 20 grains per gallon, or you are on a private well with moderate iron or manganese, a traditional ion-exchange water softener is the most effective solution available.

Our Radiant Life Whole House Water Softener is designed for homeowners who want a proven, high-performance softening system built with components that will last. Unlike the big box store alternatives that cut corners on materials and construction, every element of this system has been carefully selected for quality, longevity, and reliability.

Built with Premium, American-Made Components

At the heart of this system is the Clack WS1 control valve, one of the most trusted and widely respected control valves in the water treatment industry. The WS1 features a precision digital control panel with nonvolatile memory, ensuring your programming is preserved even through power outages. A built-in lithium battery provides an additional 8 hours of backup to maintain accurate time of day.

The valve is paired with a commercial-grade mineral tank, high-capacity resin, and a heavy-duty brine tank. These are the same caliber components used by professional water treatment companies, not the lightweight, cost-reduced versions found in consumer-grade systems. The result is a softener that delivers consistent, reliable performance year after year.

Smart, Demand-Based Regeneration

The Clack WS1 control valve uses precision metered regeneration, which means the system regenerates based on your actual water usage rather than a fixed schedule. As the system learns your household's water consumption patterns over time, it adjusts the regeneration interval to match real demand. A 14-day day-override safety setting ensures the system regenerates at least every two weeks, even if the programmed gallon threshold has not been reached. This intelligent approach uses only the salt and water necessary to restore the resin bed, which means lower operating costs and less waste over time.

High Flow, High Efficiency

Our Whole House Water Softener is engineered for real-world household demands. The Clack WS1 valve provides high flow rates to ensure strong, consistent water pressure throughout your home, even during peak usage. Available in three sizes to match the specific needs of your home and family.

The Perfect Companion to Radiant Life Whole House Filtration

For the best possible results, we always recommend installing a Radiant Life Whole House Water Filtration System ahead of the softener. Our filtration system removes chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, VOCs, and other contaminants before the water enters the softener. This protects the softener's resin bed and internal valve components from premature degradation, extending the life of the entire system. Together, these two systems provide comprehensive whole-house water treatment: clean, contaminant-free, and genuinely soft water from every tap in your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What Is the Difference Between a Water Softener and a Water Conditioner?

A. A traditional water softener uses ion-exchange resin to physically remove calcium and magnesium minerals from the water, replacing them with a small amount of sodium. This produces truly "soft" water that eliminates scale buildup and dramatically improves the performance of soaps and detergents. A water conditioner, on the other hand, transforms hardness minerals into inactive microcrystals that pass through plumbing without forming scale, but does not actually remove them. For homes with very high hardness levels (above 20 grains per gallon), well water, or moderate iron and manganese, a traditional softener is typically the more effective solution.

Q. Why Choose This Softener Over a Big Box Store Alternative?

A. The difference is in the components. Our system is built around the Clack WS1 control valve, an industry-standard valve trusted by professional water treatment companies. The mineral tank, resin, and brine tank are all commercial-grade, American-made components designed for long-term durability. Many consumer-grade systems use lower-quality valves, thinner tanks, and less resin to hit a lower price point. The result is shorter system life, more frequent maintenance, and less effective softening over time.

Q. Should I Install a Whole House Filter with My Softener?

A. Yes. We always recommend installing a Radiant Life Whole House Water Filtration System ahead of the softener. The filter removes chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, and other contaminants that can degrade the softener's resin bed and internal components over time. By filtering the water first, you protect your investment and extend the life of the entire system. The filtration system should always be installed before the softener in the plumbing sequence.

Q. Is the Softened Water Safe to Drink?

A. Softened water is safe for most people to drink. The ion-exchange process adds a small amount of sodium to the water, typically less than the sodium content in a slice of bread per glass. For individuals on a sodium-restricted diet, or for those who prefer mineral-rich drinking water, we recommend installing a separate drinking water system such as our 14-Stage Biocompatible Drinking Water System at the kitchen sink. This gives you the benefit of softened water throughout the home for bathing, laundry, and appliances, along with purified, remineralized, restructured water for drinking and cooking.

Q. How Often Does the System Need Maintenance?

A. The primary maintenance requirement is keeping the brine tank filled with salt. We recommend checking salt levels monthly and keeping the salt above the water level and at least one-third full. The system regenerates automatically based on your actual water usage, so you do not need to schedule regenerations manually. Beyond salt monitoring, an annual inspection of plumbing connections, the brine tank, and the drain line is recommended.

Q. When Does the System Regenerate, and Will I Hear It?

A. The system is pre-programmed to regenerate at 2:00 AM by default, when household water usage is at its lowest. Regeneration is demand-based, meaning the Clack WS1 control valve tracks your water usage and initiates regeneration when needed, with a 14-day day-override safety setting ensuring regeneration occurs at least every two weeks. A full regeneration cycle takes approximately 90 minutes and involves several phases: backwash, brine draw and regen, backwash, rinse, and refill. You may hear some water flow during this process, similar to a dishwasher cycle, but most homeowners do not find it disruptive.

Q. What Size System Do I Need?

A. We offer three sizes based on the number of bathrooms and overall water usage in your home: 10 GPM for 1-3 bathrooms, 12 GPM for 3-4 bathrooms, and 15 GPM for 5 or more bathrooms. If you are unsure which size is right for your home, our water division team can help you select the appropriate system. Call us at (888) 593-9595 Option #2 or connect with a water expert.

Q. Is This System Suitable for Well Water?

A. Yes. Unlike our salt-free Whole House Water Conditioning System, which is designed specifically for municipal water, the Whole House Water Softener is well-suited for private well water applications. The ion-exchange process effectively removes hardness minerals along with moderate levels of dissolved (clear-water) iron and manganese that are common in well water. When programming the control valve, we recommend adding 5 grains per gallon to your hardness test result as an iron compensation factor for well water applications (3 grains per gallon for municipal water). For higher iron loads, precipitated iron, or hydrogen sulfide, we strongly recommend pairing the softener with our Series 6 Whole House Water Filtration System, which includes additional media for enhanced iron and hydrogen sulfide reduction. If you are uncertain about your well water composition, our water division team can review your water test results and recommend the appropriate combination of systems.

Q. Do I Need a Pressure Regulator?

A. Yes. A properly working pressure reducing valve (PRV) or regulator must be installed for the warranty to be valid. Typical residential water pressure of 40-70 psi is ideal, with a maximum recommended pressure of 80 psi. Higher pressure can damage the softener, internal components, and other appliances throughout your home. We also recommend installing a memory pressure gauge (with two needles) after the regulator but before the softener so you can monitor and verify pressure over time.

Q. Does Radiant Life offer a Warranty on the Whole House Water Softener?

A. Yes. The mineral tank is covered by a 10-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The bypass valves and connection elbows are covered by a 5-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The digital control circuit board is covered by a 1-year limited warranty. The warranty applies to defects in material or workmanship only. A dated proof of purchase is required for warranty related service. A properly working pressure reducing valve/regulator must be installed for the warranty to be valid.
